SILVER CREEK - Lester A. Samuelson, 88, of Hanover Road, Silver Creek, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at his residence, following a lengthy illness, with his loving family by his side. He was born in the village of Forestville, on October 10, 1926, the son of the late Merle C. and Alice E. (Pope) Samuelson.

Mr. Samuelson served in the U.S. Army during WW II, worked as a truck driver for the former George Bentges Distributors, Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 1990, and continued to drive truck for many area farmers until he was 81 years old. He was an over 50year member of the Silver Creek Fire Department, a member of the Samuel Cimino VFW Post #6472, Silver Creek, the Mt. Carmel Senior Citizens Club, Silver Creek and volunteered with the Silver Creek Food Pantry for 20 years.

Mr. Samuelson was a very gentle man and loved by everyone. He loved his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, "granddogs" and people. Mr. Samuelson enjoyed doing carpentry and building houses.

Survivors include a son, Richard Samuelson, of Silver Creek and a daughter, Alice (Dominick) DeSanto, of Dunkirk. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Angeline (Genovese) Samuelson, whom he married June 25, 1949 in Silver Creek and who died June 26, 1990; and by 5 sisters, Marian Stull, Leona Berard, Winifred Ruzycki, Joan Griewisch and infant sister June Samuelson.

Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., from where Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning, at 11 o'clock, with Rev. Rita Moniot, granddaughter of the deceased and pastor of Starbrick Family Church, Warren, PA officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Center. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by members of Samuel Cimino VFW Post #6472, Silver Creek.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made either to the Silver Creek Food Pantry, P.O. Box 173, Silver Creek, NY 14136 or to Silver Creek Fire Dept. Emergency & Rescue Squad, 162 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, NY 14136. To post condolences go to www.rilesandwoolleyfuneralhome.com.
