from newspaper obituary:
Goshen. March 6 - On last Friday morning at 1 o'clock Mrs. Zena Thompson Goodloe, widow of Mr. J. B. Goodloe, passed gently away at her home here after an illness of several weeks, an irreparable loss to her friends. The subject of this sketch was born in Lexington, Va., her birthplace being opposite the Hospital, the daughter of Alexander and Eleanor Norfleet Cook Sloan.
Mrs. Goodloe is survived by three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, wife of Mr. T. H. Tutwiler, of Memphis, Tenn.; Eleanor Norfleet, wife of Mr. Isaac Fogg, of Wilmington, Del., and Miss Sue Goodloe, of Goshen; and also seven grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at the Goodloe residence at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by her pastor, Rev. W. T. Walker of the Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. L. O. Rose, of the Methodist church, and Rev. E. S. Vaughan of the Baptist church.
Mrs. Goodloe, for a number of years, was a teacher of note in Rockbridge county schools and served very efficiently as president of the Ladies' Aid society in the Presbyterian church for many years. For a number of years her parents lived near Goshen and coming here as a bride she won many friends by her lovable personality. She was always ready with a smile to help those with whom she came in contact.
The beautiful flowers were in profusion and on a sunny hillside in the private cemetery overlooking Goshen, Mrs. Goodloe sleeps well after life's journey. To those who loved her the flowers seem the emblems of her Christian character and the golden sunset as it shines across her grave in mellowed beauty reflects her gentle passage to the "Haven of Rest" after crossing the bar.
Mrs. Goodloe had been a member of the Presbyterian church here for a number of years.
Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones.
Among those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Tutwiler of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Isaac Fogg, of Wilmington, Del.; Messrs. Henry Lewis Goodloe, of Richmond, and Norman Goodloe of Norfolk.
Her first name was determined by the 1850 census entry, as she exclusively used her nickname.
