David F. Stoner, 82, of Galion passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at home.

He was born September 5, 1932 in Galion to Ralph and M. Loretta (Helfrich) Stoner. He married Patricia (Pessefall) Heist on October 23, 1956 and they celebrated 58 years together.

Dave was a graduate of Galion High School in 1950 and attended college at Ohio Wesleyan, Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and The Ohio State University. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in the 11th Airborne. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Galion.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by children, Lane Heist at home, Kyle (Fawn) Stoner of Greenwood, In., Lisa (James) France of Gahanna, Sara Stoner of Gahanna; grandsons, Jeremy (Emily) Helms, Jordan Stoner and Nicholas Stoner; great-granddaughters Maddie and Olivia Helms all of Greenwood, In.; sister-in-law, Betty Stoner of Lyndhurst; niece Candy (Charles) Purvis of Georgia and nephew Geoff Stoner of New Jersey.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers George and R. William Stoner.

He was a 50 year member of the Galion Elks Lodge 1191 and the America Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion. He enjoyed playing cards, watching his grandson play sports at Indiana University and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and would often take the train with his mother to watch them play. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a wonderful father who taught his children their love of country, to protect their honor and integrity and to always do their best and work hard. He didn't know a stranger and will be greatly missed.

Dave was employed at General Motors/EDS and retired in 1993.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 Elks Memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Additional calling hours will be held one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Peace Lutheran Church, 135 East Walnut St. Galion with Pastor Richard Genzman officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
