Clair W. Vance, 79, died from complications arising from pneumonia.
Parents: Willard G. and Ellis G. Jensen Vance.
Attended schools in Fairview, and high school in Mt. Pleasant. Graduated from BYU in 1948. He took officer training in 1941 and became a B-25 pilot in the Pacific during World War II. He received letters for outstanding service. He then re-enlisted for one year, stationed in Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois. He then returned to Provo and worked on his Masters Degree in Psychology and Music. He taught Teachers training at B.Y. High, Spanish Fork and Payson schools.
He married Venna Burnside Vance on December 22, 1945.
Clair bought Harveys Cafe, then built his own cafe naming it Clairs, and was in business for 33 years. Active in all sports, and the cafe was a gathering place to discuss the games. Hobbies were bowling, golf, woodworking, gardening, camping and music. He was active in the Provo J.C.s, Old Timers, the Exchange Club, and the Provo Elks Lodge. He was an Elder in the LDS Church.
Preceded in death by his wife, his infant daughter, Vicki, his mother and father and two sisters, Leola (Lee) and Fern.
Survived by daughters, Stephanie Larson (Roger) of Sandy, UT; Cathy Ford (Mike) of Orem, UT; Julie Litton (Kavin) of Provo, UT; and Kelly Thompson (Paul) of Antioch, CA; one brother, Robert Vance (Nelda) of Layton, UT; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
