Mr. Bertrand was the son of Louis N. Bertrand and Aletha Lucille Koon.
He was married to Mayzene M.

Lionel Clyde Bertrand, age 99, of Shelbina, MO, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.



Lionel was born on July 17, 1922, in Sloan, IA, the son of Louis Nelson and Aletha Lucille (Coon) Bertrand. He was united in marriage to Mayzene Marie Miller on September 20, 1947 in Onawa, IA. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2004.



He is survived by his children: son, Terry (Chris) Bertrand of Post Falls, Oregon, daughter, Christina Fifer of Shelbina, MO, son, Brad (Kelly) Bertrand of Princeton, MO, and daughter, Judy (Todd) Becker of Fair Play, MO; 15 grandchildren, Audra Lanpher, James Howell, Joseph Howell, Derrick Baymiller, Sean Baymiller, Casey Kendrick, Becky Fitzpatrick, Charles Kendrick, Adam Kendrick, Zachary Wieberg, Dale Brown, Tore' Bertrand, Michael Bertrand, Clayton Bertrand, and Felisha Bertrand; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great- great grandchildren; one sister Shirley Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; and one son-in-law, Scott Kennison of Columbia, MO.



He is also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cheryl Anne Kennison; five sisters; and four brothers.



Lionel was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Lionel farmed for several years, was a truck driver, and raised and trained horses for the military academy in Mexico, MO. Once retiring he cared for his wife, Mayzene, until her passing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.



Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina, MO, with Father Bill Peckman and Deacon Larry Mitchell as the celebrants. Burial will follow the service in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, southwest of Hunnewell, MO. A visitation will precede the service on Tuesday starting at 1 pm at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
