Jon P. Thompson, 74, of Marion and a Florida snowbird, died at 4:05 p.m. in Venice Hospital in Florida. He was born in Marion, IN to the late Walter Howard and Zula May (Collis) Thompson. Jon was a 1958 graduate of Marion High School.

Jon was a skilled tradesman at General Motors, where he retired in 2004, after 41 ½ years. He was a member of the Local UAW 977 and the GM Sympathy Club. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the Corvette Club, having owned some nice rides over the years. Jon was a loyal Cubs fan and had attended several baseball games over the years.

Jon is survived by his children, Amy (Randy) Eberle, and Andy (Anna) Thompson, grandchildren, Emily Eberle, Tyler (Dora) Eberle, Sarah (Richie) Trevino, Jeremy Skibinski, Nicole Thompson, Lorin Thompson, and Zach Thompson; great-grandchildren, Landon, Nathan, R.J., Eliana, Megan, Alyissa, Noah and Kaiden; brothers, Joe (Randi) Thompson and Steve (Wendy) Thompson; many nieces, nephews and friends; and his beloved dog, Sophie.

In addition to his parents, Jon was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Cloyd, Donald, Bob, Loren and Jerry.

A funeral service for Jon will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Needham-Storey- Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN, with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. The final resting place for Jon will be at Estates of Serenity in Marion.
