Barbara Ann Powers Welch, 80, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in a local care center.

She was a native of DeRidder and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1969, moving from Ragley. Barbara was a member of Houston River Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. She had worked as a nurse's aid at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her dogs and flowers and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Robert Kurt Welch and wife, Sara of Bangor, Michigan, and Cynthia Kay Davidson and husband, Steve, Franklin Karl Welch, Donna Wray Duhon and husband, Ronnie "Boo", and Connie Chaisson and husband, Ronnie, all of Sulphur; one brother, Jack Powers and wife, Geneva of Ragley; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Herman Welch; and two sisters, Billie Ruth Shirley and Elaine Virginia Romanski.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Gothrup will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly. Pallbearers will be RJ Chaisson, Darick Davidson, BJ Hebert, James Hebert, Luke McElveen, Bobby Welch, and Dylan Duhon. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com. My Mom was so pretty and strong until she developed Alzheimer's. She fail in Oct. 2014 breaking her collar bone. After surgery she went to High Hope Nursing Care Center and passed away 5 short months later due to kidney failure.
