Charles T Brooks is the son of James Thompson and Catherine Ann "Cassie" (Cunningham) Brooks.

Charles moved to Oklahoma at the encouragement of his father, who according to family stories, offered each of his children 160 acres of land, if they would move from Iowa to Oklahoma.

He married his next door neighbor, Lillian Gertrude Clarke on November 30, 1892 in Sheldahl, Story County, Iowa.
To this marriage there were 7 children born, one died before the 1910 census.

He moved to Yolo County, California in 1889. He moved to Erick, Oklahoma between 1900 and 1908. In 1908-09 he was the executor of his father's estate and filed the final account in the County Court of Beckham County, OK on November 1909.

A historical and Biographical Record in Yolo County, California states " Charles Brooks. One of the leading cement contractors of Woodland, Yolo County, California is prominent in business life of the city and actively identified with its interests. He is a native of Des Moines, Iowa, born November 25, 1867, the oldest in a family of seven children and the only one in California. Reared in Iowa on the paternal farm, Charles Brooks received his education in the district school in the vicinity of his home, remaining there one year after attaining his majority, after which he farmed for one year. In 1889 he came to Californa and Washington, spending about two years on the coast engaged principally in clerking. Returning to the middle west he married November 30, 1892 in Story County, Iowa to Gertrude Clarke, a native of Polk County, Iowa."
