Mrs. Whatley passed away on Sunday after a short illness. Survivors include her children, Deborah Lowry (Ron), of Anniston and Mike Whatley (Sandra), of Oxford; her grandchildren, Ryan Whatley (Cassondra), of Heflin, Jake Whatley (Lauren), of Oxford, Leigh Lowry, of San Francisco, Calif. and Rhonda Lowry, of Chicago, Ill; great-grandchildren, Alesandra Croker, Eres Croker, Imojen Whatley, Olivia Collins, Emerson Whatley and Jagger Wells; sister, Mildred Johnson of Jacksonville and sisters-in-law, Lillie Bailey, of Oxford and Ruth Bailey, of Woodland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Whatley; parents, T. E. and Amelia Bailey; brothers, Thomas Bailey, Victor Bailey and Marlon Bailey; sisters, Katherine Thomas and Myrtice Johnson.
Mrs. Whatley was born in Randolph County, Alabama on October 22, 1927. She was a treasured mother, grandmother and dedicated sister. She found her greatest joy in helping others and had a true servant's heart. Her family was the center of her life and she never tired of caring for and supporting them. She opened her heart to all she encountered and was lovingly called "Grandmother" by many. She was a dedicated member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Oxford for over 50 years and was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class.
She retired from the Alabama Power Company after 30 years as a customer service representative.
