Gwendolyn Mae Sherman was the daughter of Herbert T. Sherman and Bea Martha Lemma. She was a 5 year old child abducted by Edward McLeod a lumberman in Howell, Iron Co., WI.(Hurley, Wisconsin area) One of the
most famous cases of murder in Northern Wisconsin-Michigan in May 21, 1920.

Her father Herbert T. Sherman was working for Soo Line Railroad and had been transfered 200 miles away in Escanaba, MI two weeks prior to his daughter's murder.
Mr. Edward McLeod's shack was just 200-300 feet from the
Sherman house in Powell, Iron Co., WI.(not Howell as newspaper stated),when he abducted her coming out of the outside toilet by stuffing a handkerchief in her mouth. He was drunk
and he admitted the purpose was to rape her.

Edward John McLeod was sentenced to life in Wisconsin State prison in
Waupun, Dodge Co., WI. After 23 years he was paroled to work on Frank C. Klode
Estate in Milwauke, WI. He died at the end of 1943 and is buried in Union Cemetery, in
Milwaukee, WI. There is a city park in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin named Klode park
that is located on or near the land mentioned in newspaper article. Probably named
after this Mr. Frank C. Klode.
