His home community of Carlos and his many friends over the county were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Charles Cooper Monday evening, March 25th at his farm home in Carlos township, aged 66 years. Mr. Cooper was a member of the Douglas county Fair board and a member of the Carlos school board for a number of years, and had been active in the Alexandria Odd Fellows lodge, and had a large circle of friends, who join in mourning his loss.
Mr. Cooper had suffered from heart trouble for the past five years. He had recently returned from the University Hospital and seemed to be improved in health.
Charles Henry Cooper was born September 10, 1868, at Manchester, Wisconsin. On October 19, 1894 he was married to Miss Daisy Davis at Mapleton, Minn., and in the fall of 1902 they came to Carlos township, where they had made their home for more than thirty years.
Five sons and a daughter were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, all of whom survive: Chas. L. Cooper of Carlos, Henry A. of St. Paul, Donald M. of Los Angeles, Merle D. of Carrington, N. Dak., Margaret (Mrs. Lawrence Paulus) of Alexandria and Robert E., who lives at home. His bereaved wife also survives him, together with twelve grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Clayton Black of Carlos, Mrs. Frank Davis of Minneapolis, Mrs. Sanford McColley of Valejo, Calif., and Mrs. Arthur Clapshaw of Willapa, Wash. Four sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the home and the Engstrom Funeral Home. The services were in charge of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Rev. W. G. Mikkelson delivered the funeral sermon. Burial was in Kinkead cemetery. The pallbearers were Elmer Polzine, Richard Chase, Herman Schackel, Wm. Spletstoesser, Wm. Downs and e. J. Brandt.
