Mary M. Brinkman, age 73 of Plymouth passed away after her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s late Friday (March 13, 2015) at the Waterford in Plymouth, where she was surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born in Sheboygan on June 6, 1941, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Bernice (Franzen) VanderBloemen.
She attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Grade School, and later graduated from Plymouth High School in 1959.
Mary received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1962 from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac.
On October 20, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward Brinkman, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Mary began her nursing career at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for one year before working at Valley View Medical Center in Plymouth, where she worked for 34 years and retired in June 1998. She was a member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and belonged to the Daughters of Isabella.
Mary was an instrumental part of the community. She was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. Her love for people and life was obvious in her love for nursing. Her greatest passion was obstetrics-bringing life into this world and sharing with others the true miracle of it. Her devotion to her family and friends was like that of no other. Supporting her husband’s career, passions, and hobbies for 53 years was something she truly enjoyed as well as giving of her time and love to her five children. Mary also loved cooking, baking, vacationing in Florida and spending time at Winslow Lake…with every sunset we will be thinking of you. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving husband: Edward Brinkman of Plymouth; five children: Paul (Jill) Brinkman of Howards Grove, Dan (Amy) Brinkman of Sturgeon Bay, Lynn (Jeff) Justice of Combined Locks, WI, Jeff (Katherine) Brinkman of Springfield, MO and Amy (fiancé: Craig Wimmler) Bruder of Neenah; twelve grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler, Taylor, Ethan, Nic, Megan, Cole, Luke, Claire, Olivia, Claudia, and Jack; two sisters: Peggy (Ron) Janiak of Hoffman Estates, IL and Jane (Ron) Horness of Sheboygan Falls and one brother-in-law: Jerry (friend: Judy) Brinkman of Fond du Lac.
She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Barbara VanderBloemen, two brothers: James and Tom VanderBloemen, and sister-in-law: Elizabeth VanderBloemen.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday (March 21) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth at 12 NOON. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the Church will officiate. Following the services, cremation will take place and inurnment will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at CHURCH on Saturday (March 21) from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
