Emil Joseph Cordray

GALVESTON — Emil Joseph Cordray, 65, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. There will be a memorial service and rosary on Sunday, August 26, 2007, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston.

Emil was a lifetime resident of Galveston, born on the island October 6, 1941, to Tom and Mary Dusek Cordray. He graduated from Kirwin High School in 1960. Emil was an avid coin collector and dealer known throughout Texas and Louisiana. He loved nothing more than spending his weekends at coin shows with his son Michael. Emil had an indescribable sense of humor, a fondness for box turtles, and quite possibly drank as many Dr. Pepper’s as a person actually can. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, especially those of the coin community and all his pals at Farbs where he spent countless days enjoying their company.

Preceded in death by his parents, Emil is survived by his son Michael Anthony of Galveston; his former wife and dear friend Helen “Bootsie” Cordray; his brother Tom and wife Alice Joyce Cordray of Roseville, California; and sister Mary and husband Bill O’Rear of Houston as well as by many dearly loved nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Sunshine Kids Foundation, 2814 Virginia, Houston, TX 77098, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children with cancer.
