ATTLEBORO – Edith A. (Rodgers) Simpson, 95, formerly of Hope Gardens, Park Street, Attleboro, died Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. She was the wife of the late George A. Thurber, Jr., and also the wife of the late Donald G. Simpson. Born in Bloomsburg, PA, a daughter of the late Harry & Ellen (Kellett) Rodgers, she was a 1933 graduate of Pawtucket East High School (now Tolman High School).

Mrs. Simpson worked as a secretary for the R. I. Textile Co. of Pawtucket, RI, for many years before retiring in 1967. An Attleboro resident since 1973, coming from Lincoln, RI, she was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Attleboro, where she served as the Church Librarian for many years, and also served as secretary for the Activities Committee of Hope Gardens.

She is survived by a son, Blaine A. and his wife Kathleen Thurber of Bourne, MA. She was the mother-in-law of Karolyn Simpson of Eustis, Florida. She was the step-mother of Janet McAvoy of Tamworth, New Hampshire, and Barbara and her husband Bruce Lund of Connecticut. She was the grandmother of Stephen and his wife Leslie Thurber, Jeffrey and his wife Ann Thurber, as well as several other grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Ann Bullard.

Her funeral service will be held in the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 Main St., Attleboro, with burial to follow in North Purchase Cemetery.
