Services for Carl R. Almquist, Orion, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Orion. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Kirk, Huggins, & Esterdahl Funeral Home LTD., Orion. He died August 4, 2002 at Oak Glen Home. He was a spot welder for John Deere Harvester in East Moline for 31 years, retiring in 1975. Previously he was a truck driver, delivering feed for Wakey Bros. Grain & Elevator, in both the Orion and Osco area. He worked as a laborer in construction for Stoehr & Palmgren, building the Orion High School in early 1940, now the middle school. After retirement from Deere he worked with Pettifer Construction in building homes. Carl was born Dec. 17, 1915, in Moline. He married Arlene A. Peterson in 1939 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church for a memorial to be decided. Survivors include his wife Arlene, Orion; a daughter Susan Rockwell, St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Larry Almquist, Temple, Texas; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson.
