A. Leroy (Roy) Autry, 60, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001, after a long, courageous battle against cancer.

Leroy was born April 18, 1940, in Texas, to Lillier Mae Alford and Allen Westly Autry. He grew up in the hills of California, spending as much time as possible in God's great outdoors. He could spot a herd of elk or deer before anyone else and taught his family how to watch for hawks and eagles. Even though he attended church regularly, Leroy often said he felt God's presence more often in the mountains and streams.

He graduated from high school, converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fell in love in California. He married JoAnn R. Thorne on April 19, 1963, in Calif. Leroy faithfully served his Father in Heaven in many callings including his favorite, Scoutmaster, and as a teacher or leader in Priesthood, Young Men's and Sunday School. As counselor to the bishop, Leroy quickly gained respect and love for his fellow ward members.

Leroy entered the building profession in 1963. He was a master builder committed to excellence in any project or home he undertook. He became medically disabled in 1996 and continued to work with his beloved wood by replicating antique furniture for his family and friends. The only thing he loved more than woodworking was flyfishing on the streams of Cache Valley. And the only thing he loved more than those two was spending time with his family.

Leroy is survived by his wife, JoAnn; by his sons and their wives, Brock and Anji, Aram and Mandi; by his daughters, Heather Lynne, Breanne and Trisha Ann; by his treasured grandchildren, Taylor Brooke, Caleb Brock, and Miya; by his mother, Lillier Mae Autry, and his sister, Velta (Mrs. Rhett) Brown. He was preceded in death by his father,
Allen W. Autry and a brother, Billy Glenn.

Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
