James R. "Jim" Baier, 83, of Soldier, Iowa died Monday, August 4, 2014 at his home.
Per James' wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
James Renatus Baier was born March 14, 1931 in Soldier, Iowa the son of Ray and Alice (Nordaker) Baier. He grew up in Soldier and graduated from Soldier High School with the class of 1948.
James "Jim" Baier and Geraldine "Jerry" Stephens were united in marriage on August 27, 1955 at Kahoka, Missouri. Geraldine passed away July 6, 2010 in Onawa, Iowa.
Jim served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1955 in San Francisco, California.
Jim worked for the Civil Service with the Agriculture Department and for the Corps of Engineers on the Missouri River.
He was member of the Masonic Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
Survivors include his special family, Kevin (Bonnie) Melby of Soldier, Iowa; his nephew, Derek (Angie) Stephens of Richland, Iowa; and his niece, Tara (James) Giberson of North Liberty, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Alice; his wife, Geraldine; and his brother, Thomas Baier.
