SULPHUR - Norma O. Meyers, 87, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Meyers, a native of Covington, has resided in Sulphur for 66 years. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics from SLI (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette). She taught at Sulphur High School for 36 years before retiring in 1989. During her teaching career she sponsored the Future Homemakers of America and taught private sewing lessons during the summers. Mrs. Meyers has been a member of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church for 47 years, serving in the choir and the Lydia Circle of United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, cooking, and taking care of her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, patience, love and generosity.
Survivors include her children, Gary Meyers of The Woodlands, TX, Kathleen Meyers of Friendswood, TX, and Joel Meyers and his wife Sandy of Lake Charles; sister, Eileen Zeringue of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Wilfred "Wimpy" Meyers; and daughter, Elise Meyers Sanner.
Visitation will be held 5 – 8 pm Monday, March 16th in Hixson – Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home and resumes at 9 am, Tuesday, March 17th in Henning Memorial United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. in the church. The Rev. Doug Cain will officiate. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South.
