William H. McCarty Stricken At Home

Live Stock Dealer Is Found Dead In Barn

Apparently stricken with a heart attack, William H. McCarty, widely known White River township live stock dealer and trader, was found dead at 5 o’clock Wednesday afternoon in the hay loft of the barn on his farm. He was 62 years of age.

Dr. Charles A. Jones, coroner of Johnson county who was called to investigate, was informed by Mrs. McCarty that her husband had left the residence about 3 o’clock to do his evening’s chores.

She said he had returned to the house a time or two, but when he was not back again at 5 p.m. she went to the barn to look for him. Dr. Jones placed the time of death at approximately 4:45 o’clock, and pronounced death due to coronary occlusion.

Born in White River township on December 11, 1885, Mr. McCarty had spent his entire life in Johnson county. He was the son of John W. McCarty and Emma McCaslin McCarty. He was married to Miss Opal Cruse on April 29, 1906.

She survives with five children, Clarence McCarty, of Hoopeston, Ill.; Donald McCarty and Mrs. Mildred Flake, of Martinsville; Mrs. Minnie Stone, of Greenwood rural route; and Mrs. Hilda Harmon, of Franklin.

Also remaining, in addition to 16 grandchildren, are two brothers and three sisters. They are James O. McCarty, of Mars Hill; Chester A. McCarty, of Crook, Colo.; Mrs. Anna Shepherd, of Franklin; Mrs. Clara B. Beasley, of Beech Grove; and Mrs. Lottie E. Jones, of Frankfort.

Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Mt. Auburn Methodist church at Stones Crossing, where he was a member. The Rev. John W. Wooten, pastor, will be in charge, assisted by the Rev. David M. Shepherd, of Marion. Burial will be in the Hopewell cemetery.

The casket will be carried by Emil Harter, Jacob Harold Doty, Jasper Witham, Oscar Roberts, Bert Briggs, and George Fulmer. Nieces and nephews will carry the floral offerings.

Friends are invited to call at the late residence at any time.
