REVEREND RONALD JOHNSON

Reverend Ronald Dean Johnson passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, at his home. A resident of Dover Hill, he was 73.

He was born January 20, 1942 in Lawrence County; son of the late Lovell W. Johnson and Hazel (Pipher) Johnson. He married Linda Jacqueline (Sims) Johnson on June 16, 1962, and she preceded him in death.

He graduated from Shoals High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 through 1963, and later as a Staff Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard for 18 years. He received a Bachelor’s Degree of Corporate Law from LaSalle Extension University of Chicago, and later attended the University of Southern Indiana where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and pursued a career in ordained pastoral ministry with churches in the Free Methodist and United Methodist denominations. Reverend Johnson pastored in the following churches: Rumbletown Free Methodist Church in Indiana, Newton Free Methodist Church (FMC), St. Francisville FMC, Birds FMC, Girard United Methodist Church (UMC), and Colfax UMC, in Illinois. He retired from the ministry in 2004 and returned to live in Indiana. He was an avid reader and learner, and was very interested in military history, local history, and family genealogy.

Survivors include his daughters, Tammy Nolan and husband, Jim, of Evansville; and Lisa Rush and husband, Greg, of Rockfield; nine grandchildren, Sharayah (Red Elk) Cornwell, Micah Red Elk, Joshua Rush, and Trent, Ryan, Austin, Travis, Alex and Jackson Nolan; three step-grandchildren, Emily (Nolan) Wing, Ashley (Nolan) White, and Amanda (Nolan) Barrett; two great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gene Johnson and wife Freida of Dover Hill.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Johnson.

A funeral was held at Dover Hill Christian Union Church on Thursday, March 5. Burial followed in the Mt. Union Cemetery.
