Deceased Name: Julia C. Mitchell
Julia C. Mitchell, 94, passed away unexpectedly on January 12, 2015 at her residence in Bozeman, Montana where she had lived for the last year. She was born to Verne and Adelia Kelley Caldwell on January 5, 1921, attended high school in Billings, MT, and graduated from Northwestern University School of Music where she was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. On March 1, 1942 in Tallahassee, FL, Julia married Thomas G. Mitchell of Benton Harbor, MI. They raised their two daughters in Buchanan, MI and moved to Sevierville, TN in 1965.
An accomplished pianist, Julia taught piano for 35 years and was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.
She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1941 and upon her death was the longest living member of her Tennessee chapter. She was active in the Tuesday Evening Music Club and also belonged to the Knoxville Music Teachers Association.
Throughout her life, Julia enjoyed all things musical, her flowers, playing bridge, writing poetry, and corresponding with her many acquaintances. Her love of family, friends, church, and community will be missed
and long remembered.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by daughters Rosemary (Richard) Lee of Bozeman, and Martha (Jerry) Hughes of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren Doug and Steve Lee of Sacramento, CA, Kathy Woodford of Bellevue, WA, and Nancy Hargrove of Troy, OH; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Amy Lee, Jordan and Julia Lee, all of Sacramento, Alaina and Claire Woodford of Bellevue, and Andrew, Ethan and Hannah Hargrove of Troy.
A celebration of Julia's life will take place in Sevierville at 4:00 p.m. on February 21, 2015 at The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Belle Avenue. Inturnment will follow later this summer when family will gather at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs, MI to honor both Julia and Tom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Julia's memory to The First Presbyterian Church or The King Family Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville, TN 37862.
