Sarah Elizabeth Shelton, nee Markham, 91, of Effingham, Ill., born Feb. 17, 1924, in Mill Springs, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at The Glenwood in Effingham, Ill. Sarah was retired from Wal-Mart in Effingham and a member of the First Church of God in Effingham, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Warren Shelton whom she married on Oct. 24, 1942; a daughter, Barbara Kennerly; parents, Edward and Hazel Bell, nee Ijames, Markham; sister; Barbara Wyatt; and brothers, Wilney and Wayne Markham. Surviving are her children, Karren (Joe) Baker of St. Louis, Mo., Donna (Walley) Ashbaugh of Washington, Mo., Fred (Barbara) Shelton of Maryville, Ill., and Lisa (Larry) Pemberton of Effingham, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jeannie Rich of Granite City, Ill.Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children at 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd. in St. Louis, MO 63131.
