CUMBERLAND--Cecelia L. “Cec” Stakem passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
She was born October 23, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Hart) Coniff of Cumberland.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and James S. Coniff; sisters, Jeannine and Mary Rita Coniff; and a son, Mark Stakem.
Cec was a graduate of Catholic Girl Central High School, class of 1944, and a graduate of Ursuline Academy Business School.
Following graduation, she was employed at Columbia Gas Company. A member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Cec was actively involved at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Bishop Walsh School. She began the Special Religious Education Program at the church, and she was Activities Director for Friends Aware Social Committee.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert P. “Bobby” Stakem; daughters, Sally Seward (Edward) of Cumberland and Molly Rider (John) of Lansdale, PA; sons, Robert “Rocky” Stakem Jr. of Houston, TX, and Eric Stakem (Karen) of Wheeling, WV. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Matthew Seward (Tracie), Justin Seward (Jason), Sarah Parisi (Chris), Garrett Seward, Patrick Rider (Rachel), Annie Rider, and Katie, Jack and Maggie Stakem; and two great-grandchildren, Huey Seward and Olivia Rider.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, March 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Christian Wake service at 6:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at the St. Peter and Paul Shrine with Father Gary Stakem, O.F.M., Cap. and Father Greg Chervenak, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrants.
Interment will be held at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Moen for his care, as well as the caregivers from Comfort Keepers and the Lions Center.
