Rex was born March 24, 1921 in Castle Gate, Utah to Henry Newton and Ada Elizabeth Hartley Henderson. He attended schools in Carbon and Sevier County Schools. He is a World War II veteran, serving in the US Navy.

Rex married Viona Rtgena Nay on April 18, 1937 in Kanab, Utah. They are the parents of eight children. He worked as a coal miner, carpenter, hardwood floor installation, owned Rexs Floor Service, and as a millwright.

A member of the LDS Church, Rex also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, crossword puzzles, yardwork, and beautiful gardens. He was dedicated and loved serving his family and friends.
