Ava C. Nelson, 73, of Poplar Bluff died Friday, July 11, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Nelson was born Nov. 27, 1934, in Broseley, Mo., to the late Melvin Benjamin and Mary Adeline (Pedigo) Butts, and was of the Protestant faith. She was a retired secretary for the family owned business, Ozark Beverage Co., and was a past member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking and gardening.

On Sept. 9, 1950 she was married to Bob C. Nelson. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Nelson and Sharon Kay Betterley, both of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Charles Randall Nelson, of Glenwood Springs, Colo. and Greg Melvin Nelson, of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Albright, of Union, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Sally Mathis, of Melbourne, Fla.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Kneir officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
