Leslie John James Jr., 85 of Greenville, formerly of Washington died Monday, February 24, 2014 at St. Paul Home in Greenville, PA.

He was born November 11, 1928, in Coleford, Gloustershire, England, the son of the late Leslie John James Sr. and Mary Gertrude Cullis James.

Mr. James graduated from Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army, as a Staff Sergeant in Korea where he received the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. James was a self- employed merchant for James’s Food Market for 47 years.

He was a member of Trinity Church, where he served on the vestry four times and senior warden three times, and the Masonic Lodge #623. He was also treasurer of the Washington Grocery Association for 25 years, where he had been a member since its inception.

On June 21, 1950 he married Dorothy Wilson who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca (Patrick) Hecking of Greenville; three grandchildren, Steven, Matthew and Julia Hecking

Deceased are a brother, Harry Maxwell James and a sister, Kathleen James Fleissner.

Friends will be received Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. the time of service at Trinity Church, 550 S. Main Street, Washington with Rev. Karen Stevenson officiating. Arrangements are being handled by William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington.
