Elder Charles H. Childress, 63, of Decatur made his peaceful transition from this earth to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2015 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his loving wife and family at his bedside.

Charles was born on November 30, 1951 in Earle, AR to the late Henry Sr. and Rosa Lee Williams. He was a faithful, loving husband that devoted his life to Christ. He married his beloved friend Mildora Reed on October 22, 1994.

He gave his life to Christ, receiving the Holy Ghost and being baptized in Jesus name. He became an Elder of Christ Tabernacle, serving faithfully over 15 years. He was employed at Wagner Castings for 29 years until it went out business. Later he worked G.C.A. for 14 years until his health failed him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mildora Childress; step-sons, which he loved as his own, Terry reed of Bloomington; Kris Reed of Kankakee; daughters, Tessa Pearson and Tawna Davis of Decatur; sisters, Thelma Smith of South Carolina; Dorothy Smith, Joann Williams Glenda Childress all of Chicago; Jewell Stone (Willie) of Decatur; brothers, Donald Childress of Chicago; Henry Childress Jr.; of Fayetteville, AR; four aunts, one uncle; two special friends that Charles considered his brothers, Elder Clifford Busby and Pastor Mac Mabon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rosa Lee Childress Sr. and one brother, Clarence Williams Jr.

Death is not the end of his existence; it’s merely a new beginning. Rest in Heaven Charles we love you.


Homegoing celebration will be 11 AM Friday, March 13, 2015 in Christ Tabernacle Church with Pastor Kelly Wilson officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Friday in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
