Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Chambers, 74 of Wanette were held February 27, 2015 at Lighthouse Chruch in Purcell with the Rev. Jeff Pierce officiating. Services were under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.
Mr. Chambers died Feb. 24, 2015 from cancer at his home in Wanette.
He was born July 4, 1941 in Coalgate, the oldest of five sons of Virgil “Ray” Chambers and Nellie “Elizabeth” Couch Chambers.
Mr. Chambers began working as a young teenager in heavy equipment construction and later became owner-operator of Chambers Golf Construction. He continued that line of work until shortly before his death.
He served as a volunteer fireman in Wanette for many years and also served as mayor of Wanette and the town sheriff. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
On Valentine’s Day, 1959, Mr. Chambers married Mary Jean Mitchell. They had three children, Jerry, Deborah and Michael. They were blessed with three grandchildren, Morgan, Daniel and Nathan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Chambers of Wanette; son, Jerry Chambers and wife, Kelly, of Jones, daughter, Deborah Chambers of Purcell and Mike Chambers and wife, Susan, of Purcell; grandchildren, Morgan Pollard and husband, Preston, of Oklahoma City, Daniel Chambers of Wanette and Nathan Chambers and wife, Kourtney, of Edmond.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Keesee, Tom Atchley, Milton Pitts, Bobby Andrews, Harry Shearer, Roy Shelton, Wes Sawyer and Walt Johnson.
