Oscar Elwood Hunter passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He died in his home in Gold Run, Calif. surrounded by loved ones.
Oscar, the only son of Millie Skaggs and Elwood Hunter, was born on February 8, 1929, in Kentucky. He had an older sister that passed away in her infancy. Oscar lived in Ohio until he was 16 years old. He moved to Tucson, Arizona, with his parents when he was 16 years old, his father having to move there for health reasons. When he was old enough, he joined the U.S. Air Force, being inducted from Tucson. He was proud to have served his country from 1946 to 1950, serving most of his military life in Occupied Germany.
After the military, he married Betty Joyce Mumford and went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Starting at the bottom rung, he worked for the railroad for 43 years, his entire adult life, and retired as an electrician. He and Betty lived in Tucson, Ariz. until he transferred with the Railroad to Roseville, Calif., in the late 50's. He was preceded in death by his baby sister, his parents, a grandson, Alan Hunter, and his wife, Betty, of 44 years.
Oscar and Beverly Clark were married in 2004. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, and to ride a motorcycle. He recently celebrated his 86th birthday with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Beverly, 3 sons, Eugene Eder and his wife , Beate, of Germany, Richard and his wife, Stephanie, of Newcastle, Guy of Wiemar, one daughter, Bonnie Frenton and her husband, Douglas, of Silver Springs, Nev., four step-daughters, Linda Watkins and husband, George, of Auburn, Rhonda Ellison and husband , D.L., of Dutch Flat, Lorie Murdock and husband Troy, of Auburn, and Linda Gates of Oroville, 18 grand children, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
A Military Ceremony will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the New Auburn District Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the home of Linda and George Watkins, 2175 Sunny Oak Drive, Auburn, Calif. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice.
