To a dear sister in law who was really a sister.
You had a hard life filled with so many trials and hardships. But you bore them well and endured to the end. Your family loves you so much as do your friends. We are happy for you to be free of pain and suffering, but you will truly be mourned and missed by those you left behind.

The many memories I have of you are at this time vivid in my mind as I think of you. We had some really good times! These last few years as we have only had a relationship via the phone, have meant a lot to me and I hope they did to you as well. (I'm pretty sure they did.) So, it is with love in my heart I say goodbye to you for now, and wait for a happy reunion at the time the Lord deems it possible.

With all my love, go in peace and be happy.

Obituary written by Glenn Midgley (husband, owner of Midgley Gardenside Mortuary)

Colleen Ashby was born on Wednesday, July 22, 1953 at St Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah to Francis Eugene and Barbara Ray Harrison Ashby. She was the second of four children, Ann Marie, Colleen, Darinda and Richard. During her youth , she and her family lived in Weber, Logan, Brigham City, Utah and Vashon Island, Washington before they settled in Salt Lake City.

She attended several elementary schools and then went to Southeast Jr. High School and Highland High School where she made a lot of friends, many who remained friends throughout her life. These friends included Dawn (Giffard) Amundson, Shannon (Larsen) Dye Callahan, Sharon (England) Pulley, GlenNae (Anthony) Bartle and Glenn E. Midgley, who she married on May 11, 1973 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. During the first year of their marriage, Colleen, worked as one of the head cashiers at ZCMI, in downtown Salt Lake. Her marriage was blessed with two children, Michelle Lynn and Steven Troy. She was a loving and attentive mother and actively participated in their education by assisting in Head Start, and in their classrooms and in PTA.

In August of 1983, Colleen and her family moved to the greater Los Angeles, California area, where she continued to nurture Michelle and Troy and participate in their education. She was devoted to them and to making a comfortable home for her family.

Colleen struggled with several health issues from a young age and they took a toll on her, but she always strived to be the best mother, wife and person that she could be. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and arts and crafts and was always anxious toi do what she could to help her children on school projects.

In 2005, when it became apparent that she needed to have more specialized care, she moved to Salem, Oregon, where Michelle and Shad lived. The last several years, her health problems worsened ans she spent much of the time in assisted living and nursing facilities.

She was able to be closer to Michelle and Shad and to her grandson, Logan. She was so proud of him and it brought her such joy to be part of Logan's life. She loved his visits to her and the times she could go to their home to celebrate holidays or just visit.

Colleen kept her faith and stayed strong throughout all of the turmoil and tribulations of her life and she fought her illnesses valiantly. Her bravery and courage were a testament to those of us who will always love her.

On Friday, March 6, 2015, after a long struggle with illness, Colleen joined her parents and others who have gone home to heaven. She leaves here to celebrate her life and to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Shad Russo and their son, Logan; her son, Steven Troy Midgley and hid son Robbie; her husband Glenn; her sisters and brother, Ann Marie (Larry) Kranwinkle, Darinda Strong and Richard (Julie) Ashby and their families; her step-mother, Joyce Ashby; her aunts, uncles and cousins, her mother-in-law Marylyn Midgley and her sisters and brothers-in-law; her "adopted children" John, Jennifer, Joey, and Allison and their families, her Son-in-law's family; Pete and Cleta and Sam, her friend, Toni, her cherished friends Lessie and Michele, and her many friends. Her parents, Francis and Barbara both preceded her in death and were there to take her home.

Our butterfly has spread her wings. We will always remember you with love, Colleen.

Sisters and Brothers-in-law include: Teri (Craig) Ramsey, Melonie Sellers, Mark (Debbie) Midgley, Kelly (Alan) Bowyer, Michael (Debbie) Midgley and Brian (Aliece) Midgley. Also preceded in death by father-in-law Eugene LeRoy "Ted" Midgley and brother-in-law Patrick Dennie Midgley Biggs.
