Born to Dean and Ann Ray, Brett was the fifth of five children. He lived in Alaska for most of his life, but went to Phoenix to attend Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, Arizina, where he studied to become a diesel mechanic. Brett married his beloved wife, Laurie West, on June 1, 2008, in Big Lake. He worked for Schlumberger as a diesel mechanic, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most especially riding motorcycles, snowmachines and four-wheelers.
