Funeral Service: 9 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Colleyville.
Interment: 4 p.m. Saturday in Childress City Cemetery, Childress

Joe E. Sharp passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Monday, March 9, 2015, after a brief illness. Joe was born to H.E. and Alice Sharp on May 14, 1937, in Childress.

He graduated from Munday High School in 1955, and later obtained a degree in accounting from North Texas State University. His accounting career began with Peat Marwick Mitchell and Company prior to establishing his own accounting practice in Amarillo. In 1984, his attention turned to banking when he acquired the First National Bank of Baird, just east of Abilene. He would later purchase other banks, including First Security Bank of Beaver, First National Bank of Munday, in his old hometown, and First National Bank of Weatherford. Under Joe's leadership, this group of institutions would eventually expand to a highly-successful organization that includes several bank branches as well as a bank software company. He served as chairman of the board of First Bank Texas, First National Bank of Weatherford, and First Security Bank of Beaver with a passion for the employees and customers of those banks.

Joe served on the boards of Marine Military Academy in Harlingen and Independent Bankers Association of Texas. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Colleyville and a faithful partner with Southwestern and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminaries in the spread of the Gospel. Joe supported numerous other charities in our communities personally and through the banks that he led. There are so many pieces that make up a successful man's life, but for Joe, the main driver was relationships. He had families of faith and friends that were important to who he was and what he did. His bank family, classmates, work associates, Sunday school friends and many others shaped and influenced him, in addition to his family connected by birth.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Faye Sharp Coleman. Survivors: His wife, Becky; daughter, Zan Prince and husband, Mike; son, Steve Sharp; daughter, Keleigh Greenwood and husband, Phil; son, Scott Sharp and wife, Amanda; son, Justin Sharp and wife, Nikki; stepson, Tanner Hanley; 10 grandsons; two great-grandsons; cousins; and many friends.
