Her mother, Mary, died later that year in December 1928, and her father's health was beginning to fail with him passing in February 1931. On 20 December 1929, Octave Adkins was adopted, becoming Loretta Eileen Pittman, daughter and only child of Everett Adam Pittman & Avenell Brooks.
In 2012, one of Eileen's daughters helped her connect to her only living sibling and others of her birth family after 83 years apart. I had the wonderful privilege of being the first person of the descendants of her birth family to be contacted (due to my having a genealogy web site posted). In all my life and 40 years as a genealogy hobbyist, this was the most precious, tears-of-joy-filled moment, as I'd grown up around her siblings; who expressed a longing to know if Octave (Eileen) had been able to live a long and happy life.
