Reflections of a Celebrated Life
God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Hebrews 13:5 NIV
In Lawton, on May 12, 1963, Sharon Yvonne Willis Tate was born to Jimmie Jewell Willis.
She passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the age of 51.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with the Rev. Willie Guest officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Sharon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint John's Baptist Church in Lawton. Sharon attended and graduated from Eisenhower High School, and then moved on to attend Cameron University for a short time. In her early 20s, she was introduced to Jesse Nathaniel Tate Jr. and they later married on Nov. 16, 1987. Soon afterwards, they began a family with the births of Jesse Nathaniel Tate III, now 23, and Jewel Christine Tate, 11. Sharon's children were the pride and joy of her life. She was a loving, caring and dedicated wife and mother who took great pleasure in her role as a homemaker.
Sharon was also a beautiful daughter, sister and friend. She never met a stranger and had many words to share with everyone she came in contact with! Laughter was Sharon's enjoyment and making others laugh out loud brought great happiness to her heart. Photography was a well-known hobby that she enjoyed most throughout her life.
Throughout the years, she volunteered at her children's school and was an active participant for various sporting events and activities in which her children were involved. One of her more recent involvements was with her daughters cheerleading squad. She worked hard to make sure that not only her daughter, but other children were always well-mentored, and supported while participating in fun events.
Spending time together as a family was a top priority for Sharon. Her unselfish acts of kindness and generosity will always be remembered and cherished.
Sharon leaves to cherish her mother, Jimmie Willis, of Lawton; husband of 27 years, Jesse Nathaniel Tate Jr.; son, Jesse Nathaniel "Nate" Tate III; and daughter, Jewell Christine Tate, of Cusseta, Ga.; four siblings: Wallace Willis (Marsha), of Lawton; Pam Willis-Pagan, of Killeen, Texas; Terri Sherman, Lawton; and Cynthia Leonard (Chris Pollard), of Tulsa. Sharon also has many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers and sisters -in-law, mother-in-law, Nannie Louise Tate, of Gaffney, S.C.; and many special friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at the funeral home chapel.
