Josephine Pagano Peterson Allred, 88, died May 16, 1992, Phoenix, Arizona.
Born Mary 19, 1904 in Redstone, Colorado, a daughter of Lenardo and Amelia Schivonne Pagano. Married Bert E. Peterson, Dec. 20, 1937; he died November 4, 1957. Married A. Morsden Allred, Nov. 10, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nevada; he died May 27, 1991. Attended schools in Sunnyside and Price, Utah. Attended BYU in 1925 to get her teaching certificate. Later finished her degree and graduated in1938. She later received her Masters Degree in Library Science. She taught many years at Hamilton School in Mt. Pleasant, Moroni Jr. High School and in Salt Lake at Jordan Jr. High. In her younger years she was active in LDS Church, taught Sunday School, Primary and president of YWMIA. Member of NEA an UEA. Served on Library Board, Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer, Heart Fund and a charter member of American Association of University women.
She loved to play bridge and had a beautiful yard and always grew roses. She was an avid reader. She spoke and read Spanish and Italian. She often interpreted letters. She was also an interpreter to help foreigners study so they could pass the US Citizenship requirements. Many will remember her as their toughest teacher. She taught many Spanish and Italian adults to read and write english. Being a child in a large family with no mother, she always tried to help the less fortunate children she knew.
Survived by daughter, Mrs. Earl (DeeAnn) Lubers, Tuscon, Ariz.; three grandsons and one sister.
Funeral services, Fri. May 22, 1992, 11 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Fourth Ward Chapel. Friends call Ursenbach Funeral Home, Thurs. 7-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to services. Burial, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the library fund.
