Edith S. (Sinclair) Robinson, 93, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after months of declining health.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of George and Mary (MacDonald) Sinclair. She attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1938. A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Haverhill, she was very active and taught Sunday school for many years.
Mrs. Robinson began her career as a clerk working the counter at the Sterling Drug Store in Haverhill. She, along with her late husband, Charles, they opened a store of their own. In 1954 they were the proud owners of Robinson's Grocery Store which was located on the Haverhill Plaistow line on Newton Rd. Route 108. Upon Mr. Robinson's death in 1970, Mrs. Robinson remained operating the store until retiring in 1983.
A well read, interesting woman, she kept abreast of the news, locally, nationally, and enjoyed the "Hollywood Buzz" . She traveled extensively during her retirement, and visited lifelong friends in Australia, and had fond memories of Hawaii. Known as the family historian, she, and her wealth of family information will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews.
She leaves her nieces and nephews, R. John Ottaviani and his wife, Mary Ellen, Steven A. Ottaviani and his wife, Dianna, Bruce, Barry, and Brian Laughton, and Kathleen Dunham. She also leaves many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John E. Sinclair and sister, Sarah Ottaviani.
The family of Mrs. Robinson wishes to the many caretakers who assisted them in the care of their loving aunt, including, Hannah-Duston Nursing and rehab, Merrimack Valley Hospital, Whittier Rehab Hospital, and Merrimack Valley Hospice House.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St. Haverhill. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Mill St. Haverhill.
