Allen F. 'Chunk' Patterson, Sr., 86, of Calhoun Falls, SC, husband of Martha O'Shields Patterson, died Thursday, March 05, 2015, at the Hospice House in Greenwood.

He was born September 1, 1928 in Abbeville, SC to the late Grady Leslie Patterson, Sr. and Claudia McClain Patterson.

Mr. Patterson was a 1947 graduate of Calhoun Falls High School and an elder at Rocky River Presbyterian Church EPC. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Order, Clinton Lodge # 3 and Hodges 272 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Patterson was an entrepreneur. He was manager of the Men's Dept. at Belk Simpson in Darlington and Abbeville; owned and operated Patterson's Department Store in Calhoun Falls; employed by Watkins Freight Line for many years and was also a house mover. Mr. Patterson was an avid pilot. He served his community by flying friends to various hospitals to visit patients and enjoyed participating in the fly-in at the Greenwood Airport, taking the children for their first flight. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and served in the SC National Guard for many years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Jeanine Patterson; a son, Thomas Grady Patterson; a brother, Grady Patterson, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Dr. John D. Tate, Sr.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Martha, of 62 years of the home; a son, Allen Patterson, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Calhoun Falls; a daughter-in-law, Beth Turner Patterson of Greenwood; a brother, Billy Patterson and his wife Jo of Calhoun Falls; a sister, Dorothy Patterson Tate of Gainesville, FL; four grandchildren, William Grady Patterson (Misty), Jeb Allen Patterson (Blair), Whitney Jean Patterson, and Grayson Anne Patterson; five great-grandchildren, Will, Drew, Hanna, Graylen, and Evans Kate; ten nieces and three nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 1:00pm – 2:30 pm at Harris Funeral Home Calhoun Falls Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Langdon Erwin, Rev. Lee Kennerly, and Rev. Tom Pitman officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Masonic Rites.

The family is at the Tate Home, 417 Tugaloo Street, Calhoun Falls, SC.
