Coatsburg, Illinois, Nov. 27— Word comes from San Jose. Cal., of the death of Mrs. John Grigsby, an old settler in this vicinity, and for a long time a resident of our town. Her death took place in that town on Friday morning, the 21st inst. Telegrams from Hutchinson, Kan., announced that her remains will be interred in the Coatsburg cemetery beside those of her two children who are buried there. Mrs. Grigsby's maiden name was White, daughter of Thomas White, Sr.. one of the very earliest settlers of Honey Creek township, and was well known and well respected all over this part of the county. Mrs. Grigsby's first husband was a man by the name of Alvan Murrah, by whom she had two children, both girls, the eldest Elida died 18 years ago. The other Adella, has always remained with her mother. Thirty-three years ago Mrs. Murrah married John Grigsby, who is well known to nearly all old settlers of the county, with whom she has lived ever since. By her last husband she had three children, two daughters and a son—Grace, Viola and John Jr. Viola died in infancy and Grace and John were with their parents in California. She also leaves two brothers. James M., of Honey Creek,and Thomas C. of Wheeling, Mo. but now in Texas on a visit and one sister, Mrs. Eben Crouch, of Hamilton, Ill., Mrs. Grigsby was never of robust physique, and in the fall of 1897 they went to California to try the effects of that climate on her health. For a time she seemed to improve, but as long as two years ago symptoms of senile degeneration of the brain began to be observed, which ran its course rather more rapidly than usual and reached the inevitable result as above stated on Friday morning. Mrs. Grigsby was about 68 years old, and never knew an enemy. Her friends and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
