Following 92 years of sharing her life with family and friends, Thea Jay "Tiz" (Leasum) Overbeck Peterson passed away at home on Thursday morning, March 5, 2015.Born in Sturgeon Bay to Dr. Charles and Helen (Kielkopf) Leasum; she is survived by her sister, Helen Jane Anschutz; her brother, Chuck Leasum, preceded her in death. Along with Henry W. Overbeck, she was a proud parent with the family of Bill Overbeck, Chuck (Kathy) Overbeck, Margi (Leo) Zipperer, Philip Overbeck, Michael (Karen) Overbeck, Little Bit LeClair, and Jennifer (Steve) Baudhuin. Sons 1st Lt. Philip, killed in action in Vietnam and Michael, preceded her in death. Nineteen grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren also survive.As Door County's first Cherry Blossom Queen, her interest in the industry continued as she was interviewed as the youngest business entrepreneur at the time with her cherry pie hut, located at Garland Park. She continued her interest in the fruit industry as owner/operator of Bonnie View Orchards with the assistance of her family.A second marriage to Fred J. Peterson continued a lifetime of adventure and exploration as they traveled extensively and sailed Lake Michigan in the vessel, 'Utopia.' Sailing adventures always included family and friends as she was the mainstay and promoter of togetherness. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was also instrumental in the establishment of the Sturgeon Bay Branch.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2015, at HUEHNS Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with President Jack Luthain (of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sturgeon Bay) officiating. Burial will follow in Bayside Cemetery.
