John R. Cole, well and favorably-known resident of Culbertson, passed out of this life at the University of Nebraska hospital in Omaha Tuesday. Mr. Cole had been suffering from a complication of diseases for some time and had been bedfast since February. He was taken to Omaha only last week in the hopes he might still overcome his illness.

Mr. Cole has been a resident of Culbertson for almost 42 years, has served as mail carrier between Culbertson and Hayes Center a few years ago and has many friends in southwest Nebraska who mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian church this afternoon by Rev. H.C. Hoesch, and interment was made in the local cemetery.

John R. Cole was born in Abia, Indiana on June 9, 1887 and departed this life at Omaha, Nebraska on April 23, 1929, having reached the age of 41 years, 10 months, and 14 days. At the age of one year his parents, J.M. and Sarah E. Cole, and family moved to Culbertson where he has since resided.

On February 26, 1922 he was united in marriage to Mary Fager and to this union there were seven children born of which Donald Harold preceded his father in death at the tender age of seven months and five days on January 6, 1927.

Mr. Cole was a kind and loving father and was loved and respected by all who knew him. There is left to mourn his loss six children, Cecil, Robert, Maxine, Kenneth, Wilford, and Doris, besides three sisters and two brothers, Mary G. Sidell of Benkelman, Nannie Magee of Huntington Park, California; Blanch Warren, Downey, California; Ira Cole, Ellensburg, Washington; and Robert J. Cole of Seattle, Washington.

CARD OF THANKS: We hereby extend our heartfelt thanks to our many friends in Culbertson and Trenton who assisted us during the sickness and death of our father and brother and for the many beautiful flowers. ~Cecil, Robert, Maxine, Kenneth, Wilford, and Doris Cole; Ira Cole and family; Robert Cole and family; Mary Sidell and family; Nannie Magee and family; and Blanche Warren and family.
