Vester Rowell served in WWII as a member of the occupying forces on the islands of Guam, Iwo Jima, and Saipan. After the war ended, he returned to his wife and children and began a career with the GM & O Railroad in the Bridge and Building division. He was a member of the Bridge and Building crew that maintained the railroads from Mobile, Alabama to Jackson, Tennessee. He retired from the railroad to his farm in Ovett, Mississippi where he spent the remainder of his years.
