Born July 1, 1943, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Robert Bassett and Hepza (McColley) Burkett.
Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Robert Bassett of Illinois; one sister, Dawn Doudrava of Texas; one cousin, Jack Bassett of Shelbyville; and friend, Shirley Bailey of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Bocook.
Mr. Basset was formerly employed by the City of Shelbyville and Old Hickory Furniture Co.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jim Stephens and Corlis Dees officiating.
Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery, in Shelby County.
