OBITUARY-
Archie Kenneth Hanson, 81, of Adams, died Wednesday morning, May 17, 2006, at Adams Health Care Center.
He was born in the farming community of Adams, Minn. on April 24, 1925, the son of Harry J. and Martha C. (Thompson) Hanson. Archie attended Adams Consolidated School, Lutheran weekday Bible school and graduated from high school in June, 1943.
He worked for a time at a dairy in Austin, Minn., delivering milk, cream and eggs house to house and stocking store coolers. He also helped on the family farm.
Archie entered the military in 1944. After basic training at Camp Hood, Texas, he was deployed to the European Theatre and was assigned to the Sixth Army Group in Germany. While in Germany, he met Bette Howell, an Army WAC assigned to the motor pool, and on March 13, 1946, they were united in marriage in Germany. Shortly after the wedding, Archie was promoted to first sergeant in the Seventh Army Headquarters Company. He was discharged in 1946.
After returning from Germany, testing showed that Archie had a gift for color and art, and he began his career in the graphic arts, specifically in lithography. He started as a "go-fer" in a print shop in the heart of Chicago and served his apprenticeship to become a journeyman in multi-colored printing. He later went into business form manufacturing, and ended in general management at a large company. Archie was active in his local community, including Little Cedar Lutheran Church, VFW and American Legion. He also enjoyed bowling, golf, and traveling.
Archie is survived by his brother, Bernie (Millie) Hanson, Hudson, Wis.; sister-in-law, Ethel Howell, Lompoc, Calif.; nine nieces and nephews; cousins: Warren and Audrey Finkelson, Austin, Minn.; 18 great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
His parents; his wife and best friend, Bette and his pal, Imp, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2006, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, in rural Adams with the Rev. Shari Mason officiating. Internment with military honors by VFW and American Legion Post of Adams will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Worlein Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
