She moved to Holdenville, OK at the age of 7 due to the Mississippi river overflowing the banks and flooding the fields. She moved with her family to Oklahoma City at age 12 and remained in the area. She married Willie (Heavy) Phillips in 1948 in Oklahoma City and for the next 34 years they raised 5 kids. After Heavy passed away she spent the next 28 years with Willis Carter until he passed away in 2013.

Also, sister in laws Elanor Hinshaw and Verna Hinshaw and brother in law Joseph Laskowski.

Dorothy was most happy when surrounded by family and friends. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles until blindness took her eyesight. Dorothy felt her greatest accomplishment was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
