Newton Jasper Blan, better known as "Uncle Jap", an aged citizen of Johnson County, died at the home of his son, H.S. Blan, near this city, at one o:clock, Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Mr. Blan had been ill with pellagra for several months, although everything that loving hands could do was done for him, he gradually grew worse, until his death.
Mr. Blan lived in Johnson County and Washington counties all his life until about a year ago, making his home since that time with his son near this city. He was 80 years old of age at the time of his death. Mr Blan leaves two sons, H.S. Blan, of Dublin, and Eli Blan of Span. Also, a number of grandchildren to mourn his passing.
He was laid to rest, Wednesday afternoon at Piney Mount Methodist Church in Johnson County, where he had been a consistent member for over 30 years.
Rev. Joe Allyuine conducting the funeral. Pallbearers were; J.M. Crabb, J.M. Smith, Asa, Crabb, J.E. Bright, Leon Brantley, and Carlos Fort.
