Miriam Jernigan Walker, 93, of Aiken passed away Friday, March 06, 2015, at Aiken Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late J. Oscar Walker. Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Jeff S. and Geneva Jernigan. Miriam loved her church, Couchton Baptist Church, of which she was a charter member. She was a 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School teacher for over 35 years. She was affectionately known by her students as "Sergeant." She also taught GA's for many years. Miriam loved to play the piano, which she played by ear. She was a member of the Aiken chapter of the Eastern Star. She will be missed by her family, friends and her church family to whom she was known as "Granny."
Mrs. Walker is survived by her children: Jimmy (Christine) Walker of Aiken, Jerry (Jackie) Walker of Beech Island and Donna (Richard) Johnston of Aiken and by one sister, Myrtis J. Miller.
She was preceded in death by two sons: John and Vestos Walker, a twin sister Margaret L. Jernigan, a brother Jeff S. Jernigan, Jr. and a sister, Virginia J. Bishop. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kim (Jackie) Jones, Jason (Katrice) Walker, April Madea (Lance) Danko, Jim Walker, Amber (Rodney) Weeks, Dan (Michelle) Walker, Devin (Raven) Walker, Cori Walker Robbins, Tanya Herron, Sarah (Chris) Kneece, and Krista (Chris) Gregory.
She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Aiken Memorial Gardens.
