Catherine Nonabell Anderson Jernstedt passed away peacefully on February 27, 2015 at the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville, Oregon. Born at home in Carlton, Oregon, on September 8, 1921, she moved to Hillside Manor in McMinnville in 2006. She was the daughter of Walter and Josephine Anderson. She worked in her father's grocery store on Main Street in Carlton as a child. Mrs. Jernstedt, who liked to be called "Katie", was a student in the Carlton schools. After graduation from high school, she attended Linfield College for two years. She married Don Jernstedt of Yamhill, on December 6, 1941. He preceded her in death in 2003. While he served in the military, she lived in Portland and worked as a stenographer at Twentieth Century Fox. Katie was superintendent of the pre-school department at the First Baptist Church for more than 25 years. She was also a pianist for the church choir and its junior choir. Katie was the librarian at the Carlton Elementary School for more than 20 years. She is survived by her two younger sisters, Janet Anderson Robertson of McMinnville and Patricia Anderson Allen of Silsbee, Texas. She is also survived by her four children. Tom lives in Indianapolis; Rich in Chicago; Missy Abrahamson in West Linn; and Sue Baty in Lake Oswego. Here are 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist church at 2 pm on Sunday, April 12. The address is 500 West Main, Carlton. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to the First Baptist church in her honor. (PO Box 337; Carlton, OR 97111).
