Published in The Sierra Vista Herald (Mar. 6, 2015):

Howard Gardner passed away at his home in Bisbee, Ariz., on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.

A loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Holly; four children, Howard, Jr., of Washington state, Pamela and Rick of Bisbee, Steven and Jolene of Hereford, Ariz., and Brandon and Norma of Douglas, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Kylee and Steven, Jr., whom he adored; four step-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister. He loved all of his family and friends.

Howard was born in Douglas, Ariz., on Sept. 2, 1937, to Charles and Corinne Gardner.

When he was 3 years old, they moved to Elfrida, Ariz., where he attended and graduated from elementary and high school. He also attended Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, graduating with an associate's degree in arts. Howard also attended the University of Arizona and filled a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He worked at many jobs throughout his life, retiring in 1995 from AEPCO in Cochise, Ariz.

After retiring, he moved to Bisbee, where he enjoyed what he loved most, working with his hands doing carpentry work. He loved any challenge when it came to building. After moving to Bisbee he and his son Steven remodeled and added an addition onto the home that he and Linda lived in when they were first married. The last several years Howard’s health was not good — suffering many illnesses. However, his determination and spirit never faltered.

The funeral services for Howard will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bisbee. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.
