Charlie Hines “Sonny” Morrison was born to the late Addie Mae Morrison and Charlie Harris of Hamlet, N.C. on July 7, 1948.

He was called home on Jan. 12, 2015 at Richmond Pines Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He attended Richmond County Schools and later received a degree in mechanics from Richmond Technical College. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 where he completed two tours of duty in Germany. After leaving the Army, he enlisted in the Army Reserves until 1991. He was then employed as a driver for Waste Management for 17 years after which he retired due to illness.

During the time he was an enlisted soldier, he met and married the late Joanne Smith Morrison in 1974 and from that union they had 3 children.

He leaves to cherish his fond and loving memory four children, Deboria Smith (Kevin), Crystal Morrison, Sharon Morrison, and Charlie Morrison, III (Natalie) all of Hamlet; six grandchildren, Shaquille and Justin Smith of Hamlet, Tavaress and Tamia Morrison of Hamlet, Cheyanne Buckley-Morrison of Wadesboro and Nkozi Foust of Burlington; four sisters-in-law, Bernice Martin and Patricia Russell of Hamlet, Joyce Smith of Rockingham, Barbara Mims of Augusta Ga.; a “special daughter,” Ethel Martin; a “special grandson,” Jessie Williams Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he will be interred.
