Gene was born on September 1, 1949 in Atlanta, GA to the late William H. Cole and
Hester Mullinax Cole.
Gene was a faithful member and deacon of Sonoraville Baptist
Church. Gene was retired from Atlantic Steel after over 25 years of service. He later
worked with Premier/Vesuvius. After retirement he started his own Lawn Care
Company, Lawn Maintenance & Landscape Design and Pool Company, Cole's Pool
Supplies & Service. Gene also drove a bus for Gordon County Schools for 6 years.
Gene was well known throughout Northwest Georgia for his love of baseball. He was a
devoted baseball coach during the years that his two sons played ball. A few of the
leagues he coached are, Cartersville Little League, Bartow County Rec Departement
and assisted for Gordon Central Baseball for many years, along with several travel
teams. He was also a dedicated ball player himself and organized North West Georgia
Mens Baseball League.
The family would like thank to Heyman Hospice Care of Rome and special caregivers Jerrie, Leah and Tammy.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 PM from the Sonoraville Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Skates and Pastor Ken Comer officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Robert Yates, Russell Yates, Jimmy Fox, Michael Johnson, Bobby Draper, Louie McEntyre, Donnie Ralston and Dave West. They are asked to meet at Sonoraville Baptist Church on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
Honorary Escorts are Sonoraville Baptist Deacons, Sonoraville Sunday School Class Adult V and Adult VII, Atlanta Steel Plant Employees and the ball players that he coached and played with.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 2 – 8 PM at Sonoraville Baptist Church.
In addition to flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Sonoraville Baptist Cemetery fund or Heyman Hospice.
